On Sunday we took a tour through Louisa May Alcott's (author of Little Women) house in Concord, Massachusetts. Conan and I really enjoyed this tour and we learned many interesting facts as well. For example, did you know:
1) Louisa lived in this house for 20 years with her father, mother, and siblings.
2) Little Women was written on a small white desk in her bedroom in this house.
3) She acquired mercury poisoning at the age of 38. The poisoning caused some damage to her hands so in order to continue writing, she had to teach herself to be ambidextrous. When one hand got tired of writing, she would write with the other. This also enabled her to write in 14 hour stretches!
4) Louisa was quite moody. A small rectangular pillow was kept on the parlor room's couch. If it was lying in a vertical position it meant she was happy and would enjoy company. However, if the pillow was lying in a horizontal position, it let her family members know to "stay away!"
5) About 85% of the artifacts inside the house belonged to the Alcott family.
